All OSHO active meditations involve a stage of activity - sometimes intense and physical - followed by a period of silence. All are accompanied by music that has been specially composed to guide the meditator through different stages. They offer an effective approach to quietening the mind with the use of movements - which can include laughing, shaking, breathing, jumping, catharsis, dancing and whirling before entering a space of stillness and silence.

Why Active meditations?

If you can sit, there is no need for meditations. In Japan, for medtiation they have a word zazen. It means just sitting, doing nothing. If you can sit, not doing anything, this is the ultimate in meditations. There is no need for any other thing. But can you sit? There is the crux of the whole problem. Can you sit? Can you sit doing nothing? If that is possible - just sit, do nothing - everything settles by itself, everything simply flows by itself. You are not needed to do anything. But the problem is - can you sit? People come and ask why I teach active meditations - because that is the only way to find inaction. Dance to the utmost, dance in a frenzy, dance madly, and if your whole energy is involved in it, a moment comes when suddenly you see the dance is happening on its own - there is no effort in it. It is action without action. You can move into passivity only when all that is there like junk has been thrown out. Anger has been thrown out, greed has been thrown out... layer upon layer, these things are there. But once you have thrown them out, you can easily slip in. There is nothing to hinder this. And suddenly the bright light of the Buddha land. And suddenly you are in a totally different world - the world of the Lotus Law, the world of Dharma, the world of Tao. Osho Some of these meditations were devised by Osho, a 20th Century Enlightened Indian Mystic, for the modern lifestyle although many are based on ancient meditation techniques. Meditations last one hour with an explanation beforehand. All active meditations are suitable for beginners. These Osho Active Meditations use Osho’s official instructions and music.
